Best Drones of 2018 – So Far!
It’s hard to believe that half the year is already gone – but what a year it has been for the drone industry.
From the January release of the DJI Mavic Air to the eagerly anticipated Mavic Pro 2, drone releases in 2018 will continue to go from strength to strength – but which drones top this year’s pile so far?
Here are our top 4 of the best drones on the market this year:
4. Yuneec Typhoon H Plus – £1529.00
Unveiled at CES 2018, the Typhoon H Plus is packed with powerful features and professional image quality that photographers at any skill level will enjoy. The second generation of Typhoon H features Yuneec’s all-new, larger, highly stable six rotor hex airframe.
With a 40 percent reduction in noise from previous hex models, and stable flight in winds up to 30mph, the H Plus leads its category in stable flight and quiet operation.
It is equipped with a high aperture one-inch sensor camera capable of 20 megapixel stills and 4K resolution video at 60fps. The new model also boasts an improved low-light performance compared to previous models.
The Typhoon H Plus also comes equipped with Intel® RealSense™ Technology, a sophisticated collision avoidance system that detects obstacles and intelligently navigates around them, which means that pilots can worry less about obstacles and focus more on their flight path and camera work.
Additionally, the Typhoon H Plus has a newly redesigned Android-based ST16S controller, which includes a large, high brightness seven-inch integrated display and HD 720p video downlink for stunning real-time video reception.
3. DJI Inspire 2 – £3059.00 – Released 15th November 2016
Although technically released in the back-end of 2017, this aircraft still makes the cut.
The Inspire 2 is a high-performance professional filmmaking platform from DJI. The aircraft has taken all the sound key fundamentals and filming expertise from the Inspire 1 and made everything better.
The latest Inspire is capable of 28 minutes carrying the DJI X4S camera, even in cold temperatures due to the battery self-heating technology, while it can also hit speeds of 58mph in just over 6 seconds.
New features include a Magnesium aluminium composite shell and carbon fibre arms, Vision Sensing technology and 15-inch propellers, while the system is capable of duel operation, this allows the pilot and camera operator being able to operate separately allowing much more controlled shots and piloting.
2. DJI Mavic Air – £769.00
With the Mavic Air, DJI have created their most adventurous drone yet; with a 3-Axis Gimbal, Stabilised 4K Camera and a 7 Camera Vision System, the creative possibilities are endless.
It can reach speeds of up to 42.5 mph and includes all the intelligent features like ActiveTrack, QuickShot, SmartCapture and Flight Autonomy 2.0.
Some of its other key features include a Stabilised 4k Camera, a Camera Vision System, 12-Megapixel Stills, 100 mbps, 32-megapixel Spherical Panorama, an HDP capture mode for shadow and landscape, an Omni-Directional Antenna and weighs 41% less than the Mavic Pro.
1. DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 – £1589.00
The DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 has been refined with OcuSync HD transmission technology and features angle-tipped propellers to create a 60% noise reduction, while it also has a 30-minute flight time with a range of 7km, which allows more flight time to capture that all-important shot.
The on-board camera allows you to film in high resolution 4k/60fps and burst mode still at 14fps. It’s the first DJI camera to eliminate rolling shutter distortion using mechanical aperture, which will help you take images when flying at high speed or when taking images of objects moving at speeds.
Phantom 4 Pro V2.0’s on-board obstacle sensor scans in 5 directions. It also adds dual rear vision and a 4-direction obstacle avoidance, and comes with a range of intelligent flight modes, which include Draw, ActiveTrack, TapFly, Return To Home (which has been upgraded) and Gesture Mode.
All of these drones are exceptional, and we still have so much more to come… least to mention the DJI Mavic Pro 2 – which we could see as early as next month!
