Best Camera Drones for Photography in 2018
Camera drones have opened up whole new avenues to aerial photography and in video, television and social media – but which one is best for you?
What is a camera drone?
Camera drones are exactly what it says on the tin – drones – or Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) – that are equipped with cameras.
Camera drones are able to film parts of the world that were once not possible and offer new possibilities for not only photography and filming – but also mapping, inspection, surveying and more.
What to consider when buying a camera drone:
Camera drones can range from anywhere between £300 all the way up to around £2000, but the majority of them come with a number of intelligent flight features.
When deciding which camera drone is best for you there are a few things that you should look out for:
Firstly, the best camera drones have high definition camera capabilities for industry-leading image quality. Features such as Sensor size, ISO range, shutter speed and photography modes are all things that you should look out for when choosing your ideal camera drone. Some of the best consumer drones this year feature a 4K video imaging system.
Similarly, video transmission is vital in aerial photography. You should look for an advanced transmission system as they support dual frequencies of both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz for greater interference resistance and making It easier to control the drone’s camera.
You should also check to see the Intelligent Functions that the drone has – such as “ActiveTrack” – but also make sure that the drone is portable and transferrable.
Finally, safety is always imperative. Make sure to find a camera drone that has certain features, such as an advanced obstacle avoidance and even an automatic return-to-home (RTH) system that will help keep you and your drone safe.

Which camera drone should you buy?
Depending on what your focus is, all these drones have better aspects. IF camera quality is key, then we recommend the Phantom 4 Pro but if you are after a more portable drone, then the Mavic Air or Pro are much more to you. But if you’re just after a fun and easy to fly drone, then the DJI Spark is definitely the one for you.
All of these drones are exceptional, and we still have so much more to come in 2018… least to mention the DJI Mavic Pro 2 – which is rumoured to have a new launch date of 23rd August!
Stay tuned to the Uplift blog for all the latest rumours on the DJI Mavic Pro 2, which (fingers crossed!) you’ll soon be able to pre-order from our website.
