Aussie football fan arrested for ‘using drone at World Cup’
An Australian football fan has reportedly been arrested at the World Cup in Russia after he allegedly violated regulations.
According to The Moscow Times, Russia currently has restricted drone use during the World Cup as part of its efforts keep the tournament safe during the month-long tournament, with some reports even suggesting that the Russian military has planned to deploy ‘anti-drone units’ to protect World Cup venues from potential attacks.
And on Wednesday, the RBC business portal reported that 31-year-old Michael Warren Williams had been detained and charged after officers drew up a report.
The news comes after two Chinese tourists were also reportedly arrested last week for flying drones above a St. Petersburg fan zone, but it is thought the pair were let go after filling out a police report.
